Ugh, YouTube!

So yesterday I valiantly attempted to post a couple YouTube videos to the blog...regarding Marquette's buzzer-beater win on Sunday...but it's taken a day for the stuff to show up, so I'm guessing when it finally does, it'll be at an inopportune time. Typical technology.

Moonlighting for Snappi Hooker

Isn't that great? Sometimes product names are fun!

Beautiful non-toxic finish

When I'm getting baby furniture for the baby, "non-toxic finish" is not part of the description that I really want to see. OK, I'll admit I'd rather see that than "toxic finish: may cause hair loss, blindness, and/or any of the dreaded '-itis' diseases" but my point is that they should not need to have that in the description.

Perhaps the finish used to be toxic and they've since corrected the problem? Maybe, but you'd think that the people who got burned (literally) the first time would not go back to the manufacturer. "You know, honey, it's a bummer that we all got laminitis from the BabyFurnCo dresser, but I really love the styling, let's buy it again."

At least it's not in quotes where it's listed in the description for the product.

And With a V, Marquette moves up in the polls

It's not March yet, so the madness has yet to begin, yet watching Marquette take on Pitt yesterday made me rather anxious. Squandering an 11 point lead with only a few minutes to go, the outcome looked bleak for a time, but MU rallied in OT to win.

So I expected a close game to go the other way because we miss our free-throws...but yesterday they proved me wrong, for that game at least. 15 in-a-row (10 of them in OT) make me wonder how we shoot so poorly from the stripe in other situations. Apparently when it's stressful the guys are more able to shoot the ball straight.

After an 0-2 start in the Big East, MU is now 3rd in the conference, not too shabby. Seton Hall is coming up next, and it will be on XM channel 200 for me to listen to, since it's not televised nationally without paying for it.

MU vs. Pitt This Sunday 3pm EST

Light it up, DJames

CBS is covering (nationally, I might add) Marquette vs. Pittsburgh on Sunday. The show starts at 3pm EST (noon Pacific). An in-conference battle of top-25 teams, we're all looking for Marquette to find a way to beat the zone defense. Lately MU has struggled against the zone but has completely ripped apart a man defense. The guards are good ball-handlers, but against a zone their drive and dish game plan is ruined because the open guy ends up being behind the three-point line, and subsequently misses the shot.

The Warrior defense has been strong as of late, though they did not record as many turnovers against Louisville as expected. If MU can hang with Pitt early and not have any gaps of 5 minutes without scoring, there's a good chance it'll come down to free-throw shooting, and then Marquette is screwed. Their shooting from the charity stripe has been aweful so far this year, with the exception of the victory against Louisville. I am still checking to see if Novak still has one game of eligibility in him and can come into the game as the designated-free-throw-shooter.

Happy Birthday Hew, hopefully the Chickens can pull one out to celebrate your 21st. Happy birthday, bro.

Ha Ha Funny

Background: Yesterday I got an email with an edited Calvin & Hobbes cartoon from 1993. Being resourceful, I found the original.

So I sent the panel to a coworker with the comment that this would be her daughter in 3 years (the kid just turned 1). She of course sent it to her husband, who responded with a "Stephen in 1986" picture.

go urkel, go urkel, go go go urkel

It's scary how similar Urkel and I were back then...huge ugly glasses...Short dark hair...precocious! When I saw a TV geek wearing glasses similar to what I had , I should have asked for a new pair. I just hope that this particular style never returns to a store near you, even at a heavy discount.

...ANOTHER snow day

This past Wednesday brought more snow to the Pac NW...it started in the early afternoon and lasted until midnight or so. It took me 3.5 hours to get home...about 22 miles. ROUGH. In all it was about 5" that fell, and some areas were worse than others. On Thursday the jobsite was closed so I was able to stay at home and get some work done on the house. We decided to see how Mowter liked the snow, and it turns out that he really doesn't. OK, we knew that already but it's fun to plop him in the snow and then hear him whine.

The New Kid in KC

Last night at 11:34 pm CST, my cousin and her husband had their first child, a baby boy. As of now, he doesn't have a name...and that's kind of cool. I recommended "Baron Vaughn" Kastel and I'd be surprised if they didn't go with it.
No photos yet...

The Sneak Attack Cat

While we were out, our fiendish feline friend got into one of Cabrelle's keepsakes from the baby shower in SJ...a duckie cookie. He dragged it through the house and left it in pieces. It didn't look like he ate too much of it...and he was a stupid criminal, never left the crime scene.
So he got to wear one of the shower gifts for a while...

Heh.

Long time no post

It's been a busy few weeks...when the NW got the big wind storm a few weeks ago we lost power, you knew that, but the rest of the weekend was rough too...water in the basement from the rain, a leak in the waste pipe from the kitchen...ugh. Well this past weekend the plumbing to and from the kitchen was replaced...The old galvanized steel supply lines were replaced with Pex (plastic) and the old waste was replaced with ABS (also plastic). No more 1940's technology for the kitchen! Of course, the main bathroom is still on the old stuff...

It was a great way to end 2006 and start '007. Here are the Pex manifolds (hot on the bottom and cold on top).
